Here's an overview of what we've been up to in February.
Hi friends, welcome to Chillsy's 14th monthly update!
Chillsy exists because we are frustrated at the lack of practical opportunities to make meaningful connections, and subsequent missed events and activities.
In these updates, we'll share what we've been up to, and our progress towards our goal of helping people overcome various barriers including time, opportunities, confidence to do things they enjoy and feeling less lonely.
Our Focus in February - Aligning on Values, Vision & Critical Learnings
In the last update, we discussed our desired progress in developing scalable growth strategies, progress towards framing and understanding our JTBD and launching our new app. While we’ve made a start with these key initiatives, our progress has been limited. Key obstacles have been a disconnect in priorities, navigating our personal goals in relation to the Chillsy, and the intensity of launching the Gals Brunch in a new city.
To address this, we’ve transitioned to working in person and planning to onboard a virtual assistant to help manage our admin around the Gals Brunch.
We have made meaningful progress with the app, we should be testing it live with groups for the next round of brunches. This will allow us to see the effects of post-event nudging and incentives to encourage groups to continue to hang out and develop their relationships.
Good, Bad and Ugly
Good
Being able to work in person again!
The Gals Brunch Melbourne had significantly improved feedback in its second run, after sorting issues around reservations and managing timezones. We have developed our processes around how to launch in new cities in terms of identifying locations, channels, etc.
Bad
A LOT of time was spent managing conflict and differences within the team, which impacted our ability to get work done
Ugly
We ended up scrapping the Summer of Friendship. Though we gained some crucial insight into accountability, motivation, and timing for future experiments
Our Focus For Next Month
Implementing the app to support brunches, and testing nudging 👉
Launching Sydney brunches 🦘
Onboarding a virtual assistant! 💻
Exploring hyper-niches as a pathway to growth and friendship development 🏎

“Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words.” -Roy T. Bennett.
